Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation Issues Letter of Intent to Invest in Polaris Bio's Terengganu Project

On 19 June 2026, the Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation (SLC), a public corporation of the Republic of Korea, issued a letter of intent to invest to Polaris Bio Co., Ltd. in respect of the palm oil mill effluent (POME) biogas upgrading project under development at a palm oil mill in Terengganu, Malaysia. The letter of intent is non-binding and does not constitute a commitment to invest. The value is not disclosed.
The project converts POME into biogas and upgrades it to bio-compressed natural gas. It is being prepared as a mitigation activity under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, with the resulting Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes to be transferred to the Republic of Korea. According to SLC, the project is expected to reduce approximately 732,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent over fifteen years, and a full feasibility study is currently in progress.
SLC has pursued international greenhouse gas mitigation projects since 2024 and reports eight projects across six countries, combining green official development assistance with public–private partnership structures.
The letter of intent is the first expression of investment intent received by Polaris Bio from a Korean public institution for an Article 6.2 project. Polaris Bio originated and developed the Terengganu project, and continues to lead site development, mill-side agreements and methodology work in Malaysia.
수도권매립지관리공사, 트렝가누 사업에 투자의향서 발급
수도권매립지관리공사는 2026년 6월 19일 (주)폴라리스바이오에 말레이시아 트렝가누주 팜유 폐수(POME) 바이오가스 고질화 사업에 대한 투자의향서를 발급함. 동 의향서는 법적 구속력이 없으며, 투자 확정을 의미하지 않음. 금액은 비공개.
본 사업은 팜유 폐수를 바이오가스로 전환한 후 고질화하여 바이오 압축천연가스(Bio-CNG)를 생산하는 사업으로, 파리협정 제6조 2항에 따른 감축사업으로 준비되고 있으며, 발생하는 국제감축실적(ITMO)은 대한민국으로 이전될 예정임. 공사 발표에 따르면 15년간 약 73만 2,000톤 CO₂eq 감축이 기대되며, 현재 본 타당성조사가 진행 중임.
공사는 2024년부터 국제 온실가스 감축사업을 추진해 왔으며, 현재 6개국 8개 사업을 녹색 ODA와 민관협력(PPP) 연계 방식으로 진행 중임.
당사가 한국 공공기관으로부터 제6조 2항 사업에 대한 투자의향을 표명받은 것은 이번이 처음이며, 당사는 사업 발굴 이후 현지 부지 개발, 팜오일 밀 협약, 방법론 관련 업무를 계속 수행하고 있음.
