Updated: Oct 12

Polaris Bio Co., Ltd. attended the Fourth Korea–Malaysia Climate Change Dialogue, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul on 11 September 2026. The Korean delegation was led by the Ambassador for Climate Change of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Malaysian delegation by Nor Yahati binti Awang, Deputy Secretary-General (Environmental Sustainability) of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES).
Participants from the Korean side included the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, the Korea Meteorological Administration, the Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation and the Korea Environment Corporation. The agenda covered negotiating positions ahead of COP31, cooperation on international greenhouse gas mitigation projects, the conversion of palm oil production waste into bioenergy, and the sharing of Korean experience as Malaysia develops its emissions trading scheme and carbon market.
Polaris Bio was represented by Kim Junghwan, Chief Executive Officer. Addressing the session on international mitigation cooperation, he set out the procedural questions that private developers face when preparing projects under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
Polaris Bio is developing a palm oil mill effluent biogas upgrading project in Terengganu, Malaysia, which is intended to generate Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes under Article 6.2.
"Clear and predictable guidance on letters of intent is what allows private developers to commit capital to Article 6.2 projects. We would like this dialogue to produce the first privately financed results under Article 6.2 between our two countries." — Kim Junghwan, Chief Executive Officer, Polaris Bio Co., Ltd.
